About Optio
Optio is Latin for choice. Every specification contains one: the list of manufacturers an engineer allows. Our work is finding out how that choice was made, and whether it can be made differently.
Why this practice exists
Manufacturers know that being named in the specification drives their share, but few can measure it. Large manufacturers employ specification engineers in every region. Challenger and mid-sized manufacturers usually rely on reports from their representatives.
The answer is already in the documents. Engineers rarely write manufacturer lists from scratch; they carry them forward from a master specification, sometimes for a decade. That means most exclusions belong to a small number of firms, and changing one master changes every future project that firm designs. Finding those firms, and the exact sentence to change, is what we do.
Experience
Data center commissioning, electrical specification analysis, and electrical systems testing.
The practice serves electrical equipment manufacturers and independent builders, North American subsidiaries of manufacturers based abroad, and manufacturers’ representative firms carrying challenger lines.
How we work
- Quoted, not paraphrased
- Manufacturer and substitution language is reproduced exactly, with article number and page. The evidence has to stand on its own.
- Facts kept apart from inference
- We report what a document shows. Where we draw a conclusion about how a list was written, we say so.
- Limits stated plainly
- Every report states its sample size, date range and anything not yet verified.
- Confidential by default
- Your documents and data are used only for your engagement and are never shared with other clients.
- Remote and written
- Work is delivered in writing.
